It is a fossil fuel composed of methane gas, a more potent, heat-trapping greenhouse gas (GHG) than carbon dioxide. 🔥 Methane is responsible for 25 percent of the global warming we are experiencing today. The burning of coal, oil, and gas is accelerating global warming at unprecedented rates, leading to conditions that fuel increasingly severe wildfires. We’re now facing wildfire seasons that begin earlier, last longer, and produce fires that are harder to control—some even continue to smoulder through the winter. When trees burn, the carbon they store is released into the atmosphere, further intensifying global warming. However, we can mitigate future risks.
